73 Das passt nahtlos in das vorherrschende Narrativ des Golden Age von Hip-Hop zwischen den späten 70ern und den frühen 90ern. Kommerzialisierung und gewaltverherrlichende Texte inmitten des Eastcoast – Westcoast Konflikts führten zu einer Gegenüberstellung von zentralen Kernelementen der Hip-Hop-Kultur als Gegenpol zu verkaufsorientiertem Rap als Mittel zu schneller Selbstbereicherung und Ausbeutung. Hip Hop vs. rap ist natürlich eine starke Limitation und schliesst diverse Faktoren aus, wie etwa die Komplexitäten der Rezeption. Es ist dennoch ein Diskurs, der sich um die zentrale Frage der Authentizität dreht. Das binäre Gegenteil dient somit der Identitätskonstruktion und legitimiert sogenannten real Hip Hop. Wahre Zugehörigkeit zu der Kultur und deren Gemeinschaft, nur den Initiierten bekanntes Geheimwissen sowie nur den genauen Zuhörern Bedeutung erschliessende Botschaften, implizieren moralische, rassische sowie esoterische Kategorien. Insbesondere im Kontext von Nostalgie, entweder für die verlorene aber nach wie vor schlummernde Kraft der Hip-Hop Bewegung für sozialen Wandel, aber auch für eine afrikanische Vergangenheit, die sich rund um Kemet dreht und auf eine kulturelle Regeneration abzielt.
