Lunch Talk: Smuggled Sheep, Smuggled Shepherds: Entangled Histories of Agriculture and Labour in Namibia and Angola, 1933-1975
August 14 @ 12:15 - 13:45
Bernard C. Moore (Department of History, Michigan State University) presents from his ongoing research on colonial agricultural and environmental histories in Namibia, with a particular emphasis on the karakul sheep industry and the circuits of African labour recruitment during the apartheid era. In this paper the little known regional entanglements between different settler colonies and labour regimes in southern Africa are highlighted.
